Wait for it: Hamilton’s economic impact has been revealed
Ahead of the closure of the Australian production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical, producer Michael Cassel has shared its total ticket sales and contribution to GDP.
The first Australian version of the musical Hamilton has sold more than 1.3 million tickets, producer Michael Cassel says, one of the biggest local box offices ever for a single musical production.
Ahead of its closure at Sydney Lyric theatre on January 25 – the run-up to which could see sales exceed 1.4 million – Cassel has also released an estimate of the economic impact of Hamilton, which took in a COVID-shortened Sydney run from March 2021, then Melbourne and Brisbane seasons before a Sydney return last July.
