This is probably unlike any patch of desert you’ve visited
In California’s Anza-Borrego, I stumble upon a patch of scrub and an artistic couple with a big dream, the Landmarks of Art Aesthetic Research Station.

The small sign on the fence says it is a Research Station, but it isn’t obvious what the couple sitting in the shade of a creosote bush, next to an old Chevrolet van, are researching.
However, they are soon on their feet and I am being shown around the site by the ebullient Yoshimi Hayashi and his slightly more reserved partner, Allison Beaudry.
