What do a 1980s fashion photographer, a Canadian modernist and an American folk artist have in common? They are among the dozen artists whose work will be among the first beneficiaries of a project that seeks to channel contemporary thinking on gender equality and creativity to help right some historical wrongs in art.
The project – Fearless – will be launched at the end of June by the Art Gallery of NSW. The membership program aims to connect women who are keen to celebrate creativity in all its forms while funding conservation work that will prepare key works by female artists for exhibition. Photographer Bettina Rheims, modernist Emily Carr and folk artist Grandma Moses are among the 12 whose work has been identified by the AGNSW as worthy beneficiaries of Fearless funds.
