A major collection of photographs by Wolfgang Sievers will come to auction next week, in the culmination of a seemingly unlikely yet fruitful friendship between the celebrated photographer and Melbourne barrister Julian Burnside KC and his artist wife Kate Durham.

Sievers died in 2007 aged 93, having fled Nazi Germany before World War II because his mother was of Jewish heritage.
