How koalas have made a surprise comeback
A fire tearing through a conservation park in the Adelaide Hills was the impetus for a new book about the oh-so cute but at risk animals that live there.
There are an abundance of koalas where I live in the Adelaide Hills. Every year, in September and October, they begin their annual courtship with the deep-chested grunting bellows of the males echoing out from the treetops.
A little later in the season these characteristic calls are joined by the higher pitched squeals of females, very often as they reject the advances of their enthusiastic suitors.
