The power of clothes to transform is a common cinematic trope. From Cinderella to Pretty Woman to Grease, women have been empowered by their outfits. Hit Aussie film The Dressmaker added to the canon in 2015 with its array of 1950s themed frocks designed by Marion Boyce.
These stunning costumes, which have been displayed at several National Trust mansions since 2015, can be seen at The Dressmaker exhibition at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia in Canberra from April 18.
