He released 12 studio albums, five live albums, seven compilations, one EP and 39 singles – but the singer, born Marvin Lee Aday, had more in his wheelhouse than Wagnerian rock opera

Meat Loaf, who died on January 20, became a legend with the release of Bat Out of Hell, composed by Jim Steinman, in 1977. The album remains the highest selling record in Australia with sales of more than 1.7 million (just ahead of John Farnham’s Whispering Jack).
