Philanthropist Geoff Ainsworth has given the National Gallery of Australia the biggest gift of artwork in its history, buying it a major painting by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch.
Munch’s Man With Horse, an oil on canvas from 1918, was hung last week opposite the Canberra institution’s most famous acquisition, Jackson Pollock’s Blue Poles, in its international gallery.
