The moment that Alan Joyce, CEO of Qantas, became simply Alan Joyce, with no job title needed, was perhaps when a lemon meringue pie was smashed into his face.
Joyce had become a flagbearer for the campaign for same-sex marriage, having been the most visible gay man among the 34 CEOs who, in March 2017, publicly called on then prime minister Malcolm Turnbull to change the marriage law.
