Autobarn owner’s new chief winds down McKinsey plan

Simon Evans

The new chief executive of ailing automotive parts group Bapcor is backing the dismantling of an overhaul program driven by consulting group McKinsey & Co which failed to meet targets and caused internal turmoil.

The Better Than Before program, based largely on McKinsey’s work, was brought in by then chief executive Noel Meehan in mid-2023, who said the 300-plus initiatives would help deliver an extra $100 million in profits in 2025. The company operates 1100 retail and trade outlets selling auto parts to retail customers and mechanics under the Autobarn, Autopro, Burson and Midas brands.
