Telstra goes big on infrastructure as it bets on AI
Telstra says it should no longer be forced to put aside substantial amounts of funding for an ageing copper wire network mostly used for home phones so that it can redirect its efforts toward faster connections and supporting artificial intelligence.
While the country’s largest telecommunications group is not asking for more money, it wants Labor to reconsider the so-called universal service obligation, which requires it to connect Australians through a copper network, as home phone use declines.
