Microchipped balls: What sport will look like in the future

Brisbane 2032 president Andrew Liveris says that the Brisbane Olympics will embrace a fully virtual experience which will make the event “very different” to Sydney and Melbourne’s Olympics but admitted the total cost will far exceed the estimated $7 billion bill.

Mr Liveris, who said Annastacia Palaszczuk called him to congratulate him before he knew he had been offered the role, joined AFL chief executive Gill McLachlan and Tennis Australia boss Craig Tiley at the SportNXT summit in Melbourne on Wednesday, where the focus was on emerging technology, including the use of microchips in balls.
