Australia picked up this week at the Tokyo Paralympics, jumping from seven gold medals and 17 overall to 18 gold and 70 overall on Friday afternoon.
But as the Games headed towards their Sunday close, Team Australia was struggling to claim a top-five berth – a position the country has held every Games since Athens 2004 (it topped the list in Sydney 2000) and one it was hoping to protect.
