There hasn't been much good news in the world of golf since the Players Championship in Florida was dramatically cancelled in mid-March after only one round, Japanese player Hideki Matsuyama having carded a spectacular – but ultimately meaningless – 63.

The Open Championship, due to be held at Royal St George’s in Kent in July, has been cancelled – for the first time since World War II – while the remaining three of golf’s major championships will now take place, hopefully, at the end of the northern summer, all in the United States.
