Cycling’s elite descends on the Gong for road world championships

A thousand of the world’s best cyclists will descend on Wollongong this week, where they will pedal furiously to win the right to wear the coveted “rainbow jersey”.

Hosting the UCI Road World Championships is a major coup for the Illawarra region: vision of the lycra-clad athletes, punching it out alongside the spectacular coastline, will be beamed to a global television audience of 300 million people, mostly in Europe.
