Mathew Belcher and Will Ryan won a gold medal – Australia’s second gold medal for sailing at these Games and the last ever to be awarded to a men’s pairing in the 470 class dinghy, which will from Paris 2024 change to a male-female mixed competition.

The professional sailing duo’s win lifted Australia’s total on Wednesday to 15 gold medals, while Noosa-based Kareena Lee won the country’s first-ever medal in the 10km marathon swim with a late dash that placed her third, just 1.7 seconds behind the winner in a race lasting almost two hours.
