When is it too late for lunch? It’s 2.30pm, and I’m waiting for AFLW player Tayla Harris to wrap up training. I’m starving and, it turns out, she’ll be able to manage a second meal at the East Pantry, a venue chosen mainly because it’s near where she trains in Keilor East.
It’s not the most glamorous location. We’re three-quarters of the way from the CBD to the airport in north-west Melbourne and a few days after our lunch a gangland execution takes place just metres away – but it’s fitting, given we are deep into suburban footy fanatic territory, about 13 kilometres from the CBD.
