AFL Commission chairman Richard Goyder says the game has landed a giant blow in the battle to dominate the working-class heartland of western Sydney which cements the code's reach as a truly national competition.
Mr Goyder, also chairman of Qantas, said there was also a pathway for Tasmania to launch a long sought-after AFL team but insisted western Sydney remained the frontline in the battle with rugby league, rugby union, soccer and netball.
