The inaugural launch of the AFL season outside Victoria could become a repeat play for the code’s governing body as it tries to grow the game in what is historically rugby league territory.
AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon hopes television and streaming viewers across the country will flock to watch the first four matches of the season play out in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast in what’s been called the Opening Round.
