Woolworths' reputation on the line over Darwin liquor plans

Woolworths chairman Gordon Cairns thought he'd nipped in the bud a shareholder and community revolt against the retailer's plan to build Australia's largest Dan Murphy's liquor store close to Aboriginal communities in Darwin.

After multiple shareholders spoke against the plan at the retailer's virtual annual meeting last month, Cairns brought the debate to an abrupt end by revealing Woolworths had agreed to move the proposed 1800-square metre liquor store to a new site.
