Why supermarkets ‘fell off their pedestal’

Building social licence is a significant opportunity for retailers but as the travails of the two big supermarket chains show, it can be easily damaged.

It’s hard to believe that barely six months ago, Woolworths and Coles were rated Australia’s most trusted brands.

In a survey by Roy Morgan, the supermarket chains were lauded by consumers for their focus on the needs of customers, their reliability, transparency and community-mindedness.
