No joy for supermarkets in the election – but safeguards needed

There is a good case for both Labor and the Coalition’s proposals, but they should apply to all big businesses.

There is little joy in the election for supermarkets. Labor proposes to penalise price gouging in supermarkets and the Coalition has pledged to break them up if they act anti-competitively.

I believe that there is a good case for both proposals, but they should apply to all big businesses, not just supermarkets, provided there are substantial safeguards and that they are used sparingly.
