Former David Jones chief executive Paul Zahra will succeed Russell Zimmerman as chief of the retail sector's peak body, the Australian Retailers Association.

The ARA had been looking for a new CEO since late last year, when Mr Zimmerman indicated he planned to retire and when merger talks between the ARA and the Queensland-based National Retailers Association collapsed.
