Emerson review has no evidence to support mandatory supermarket code

Amazon and Bunnings aren’t covered because consumers love them. That shows it is all about political cover to bash Coles and Woolworths for inflation.

The interim report of the “independent” review of the Food and Grocery Code of Conduct released this week by former federal Labor minister Craig Emerson demonstrates how politics and public policy now work in Australia.

When his appointment was announced this year, Emerson went on radio and TV to announce that he would follow the evidence and let the facts drive his recommendations for further reform of the code.
