Australia Post has boosted security and notified the customers of its Bourke Street GPO in Melbourne following an after-hours break-in when criminals stole mail from post boxes, including one owned by a superannuation fund.

Mercer Super chief executive Claire Ross wrote to members on Wednesday evening that it was affected by the breach and said it was possible “that letters containing members’ personal or financial information were stolen”.
