Coles calls in Bain as it slashes the number of products on shelves

Coles is aggressively reducing the number of products on its shelves in a shift that could hurt suppliers but lead to higher profits for the retail giant.

The country’s second-largest supermarket chain has quietly been working with consultants at Bain for months and wants to cut its range by at least 10 per cent in the hope of higher sales for those lines left on the shelf.
