National accounting firm to trial nine-day fortnight

One of Australia’s largest accounting firms, Grant Thornton, will trial a nine-day fortnight from next March without any cuts to staff pay in a “counterintuitive” bid to respond to skill shortages.

The firm has recorded a significant uptick in work over the past two years but this, combined with the white-collar talent crunch, meant that its people were “working long hours” and “exhausted”, CEO Greg Keith said.
