Law Council takes aim at Cash over human rights pick

The peak body for the legal profession has taken aim at the federal government over the appointment of WA academic Lorraine Finlay as the next Human Rights Commissioner, saying such roles should be decided “through an open and participatory process”.

Attorney-General Michaelia Cash has been subjected to increasing criticism this week for choosing Ms Finlay, who has strong Liberal Party ties and is closely aligned with a conservative think-tank, the Institute of Public Affairs.
