Whitehaven sells more coal but supply depresses prices

Whitehaven Coal recorded a sharp rise in coal sales in the December quarter, and while prices remained flat amid the fading super-cycle, the miner anticipates that a shortage of steelmaking coal and growing Indian demand will support long-term price growth.

Whitehaven said it achieved record sales from its Daunia metallurgical coal mine, a crucial input in steel production, driven by strong demand, ample supply, and improved access to a key Queensland rail line.
