Rio Tinto has heaped more responsibility on rising star Peter Toth and increased the size of its executive committee at a time when there are question marks over the leadership of chief executive Jean-Sebastien Jacques.
The top tree shake-up at Rio will also mark the departure of Stephen McIntosh, the executive with responsibility for building the problem child Oyu Tolgoi copper mine in Mongolia.
