BHP Group will hold on to its Mt Arthur thermal coal export mine in the NSW Hunter Valley and close it 15 years before schedule after failing to find a buyer.
Almost two years into a review of its “lower grade” metallurgical and energy coal assets, BHP on Thursday revealed it would retain its NSW Energy Coal division and seek approval to operate beyond 2026, until the 2030 financial year.
