Hedge fund Starboard Value confirmed on Monday (Tuesday AEST) it had filed a shareholder resolution to eliminate the dual-class share structure that allows Rupert Murdoch to control News Corp, the publisher of the Wall Street Journal.

“There are no reasonable arguments to extend super-voting rights and de facto control to the inheritors of a founder,” Starboard’s Jeffrey Smith said in a three-page letter sent to News Corp shareholders.
