Ratings crown ignores shift to digital

In a year when every commercial free-to-air TV network is a winner, the focus needs to be on who is successfully navigating the transition period between traditional television and digital.

Australia’s TV industry is making the seismic shift to digital, but as the official broadcast ratings year came to an end at the weekend, the focus was largely on traditional TV audiences rather than those watching via digital means, nor was it on “total TV”, a term the industry uses to talk about traditional broadcast and broadcast video-on-demand combined.

Indeed, as the official ratings year ended, Seven West Media claimed the ratings crown for the total people metric across traditional broadcast.
