The Nine executive who gave the green light to publish stories about Ben Roberts-Smith’s alleged war crimes has declared Thursday’s decision a win for investigative journalism and the former soldiers who gave evidence in the case.
James Chessell, managing director of publishing, was The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald’s executive editor in 2018, when journalists Nick McKenzie and Chris Masters were writing about Mr Roberts-Smith’s alleged war crimes.
