Exits, cuts and Smooth FM: Nine mulls future of 2GB, 3AW, 4BC and 6PR

While it has shelved plans to replace its Perth radio station with a music feed from Nova, there are plenty of challenges at the company’s radio division.

In mid-October, Nine Radio director Tom Malone pulled the trigger on a plan to slash costs at Perth’s talkback radio station, 6PR.

He cut expenditure, afternoon presenter Julie-anne Sprague and the evening show’s Tod Johnston, and asked those who remained to stay on the air for longer. Breakfast, which aired between 5am and 9am, now runs until 10am.
