Curtain falls: Hoyts, Event, Village cinemas hit by shutdown

Village Roadshow, Event Hospitality & Entertainment and Hoyts have been forced to close their cinema doors following a federal government-mandated shutdown to attempt to stymie the spread of the coronavirus.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced a ramp-up in measures to combat the spread of COVID-19, including advice against all non-essential travel. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews also announced a shutdown of all non-essential services in their states.
