Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will forge ahead with a law forcing big tech companies to fund journalism, calling out the media bargaining code as a priority despite US President Donald Trump’s administration listing it as one of its trade grievances.

Speaking in Melbourne on Thursday hours after Trump’s “liberation day”, when the president announced an enormous set of tariffs the US will impose on the world, Albanese set out the policy areas the Australian government would defend.
