BlueScope may pay big fine for trying to fix steel prices

Australia’s largest steel group, BlueScope, faces a potential fine of $10 million after a court found the company and one of its former executives, Jason Ellis, attempted to engage in cartel conduct and price-fixing in the supply of flat steel products over a 10-month period during 2013-14.

Justice Michael O’Bryan handed down a 453-page judgment on Friday following a long trial in late 2021, which found that most of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s allegations in the civil case were proven.
