New Atlas Arteria chief executive Graeme Bevans will prioritise unwinding a complicated agreement and bolstering relationships with governments after assuming control of the toll road company following its split with the Macquarie Group.

Macquarie's external management of Atlas Arteria ended on Sunday, a month ahead of schedule, after almost a year of negotiations to finalise the transition to independent management.
