The former trade minister spent three sleepless days in Atlanta in 2015 resisting a US push for stronger intellectual property protection for American drugmakers during Trans-Pacific Trade Deal negotiations. The impasse threatened to derail the 12-nation agreement and the US president at the time, Barack Obama, intervened.
