Insurers propose rescue package to end hospital payment feud

Health insurers, under pressure to return more of their profits to struggling hospitals, have offered short-term financial assistance for facilities most in need as part of a rescue package designed to end a bitter feud on private healthcare funding.

The pitch, backed by the chief executives of insurance majors Medibank Private, Bupa and NIB, was made in a submission to a meeting of the country’s top healthcare chief executives and Health Department secretary Blair Comley on Friday.
