Doctors say health insurers have too much control over home care

Doctors are calling for an overhaul of Australia’s out-of-hospital home care model which they say is dominated by private health insurers who have too much control over the way patients are treated and which doctor they see.

With Australians increasingly opting to recover at home from knee and hip replacements and other surgeries, the Australian Medical Association said Australia was at risk of adopting “US-style managed care” where health funds call all the shots.
