Tougher casino laws in Victoria designed to ‘hold Crown to account’
The Victorian government has introduced new laws to increase the powers of the state’s gambling watchdog and lift disciplinary consequences for casinos that enable problem gambling, in a move designed “to hold Crown to account”.
The proposed legislation, which the state parliament will probably pass quickly given the Labor government’s hefty majority, delivers on recommendations from last year’s bombshell royal commission into Crown’s practices.
