Billionaire Lee bought $2.7b in chips at The Star, inquiry hears
Billionaire property developer Phillip Dong Fang Lee purchased $2.72 billion in chips through The Star Entertainment’s flagship casino in Sydney over 15 years, only losing $57 million along the way, an inquiry has heard.
The NSW probe into whether The Star is fit to hold its flagship casino licence in Sydney also heard Mr Lee didn’t always use these chips to gamble. Instead, the evidence suggested he would re-cash or keep some of these chips – including taking home $20.5 million worth of $500,000 gaming plaques – without playing them.
