There are few people on this earth who might fail to realise that they are the subject of court proceedings aiming to bankrupt them.

Ben Madsen, 41, is one of them. At least, that’s according to his lawyers who told a court this week that he had no idea that he had been issued a bankruptcy notice by HG Investment Capital, a small-time lender that invests largely on behalf of the city’s Vietnamese community.
