Mayfair 101’s Mawhinney sues ASIC for defamation

Mayfair 101 founder James Mawhinney is suing the corporate regulator and deputy chairman Sarah Court for defamation, saying comments in a press release issued last month caused him “distress and embarrassment”.

The lawsuit filed in the Western Australian Federal Court is the latest in a string of court actions instigated by Mr Mawhinney or companies in now-fizzled funds management outfit Mayfair 101. Almost $200 million raised from Mayfair investors is frozen.
