The introduction of artificial intelligence in banking is fuelling expectations it will hollow out the ranks of junior bankers. But the local outposts of large investment banks are still adding to their ranks with robust graduate intakes this year, making no allowances for AI.

Many graduates are due to start work at the bulge-bracket firms this week, and most received their job offers after completing a coveted summer internship program which typically runs for six to 10 weeks.
