CBA inflicts more pain on savers as rates head to zero

Commonwealth Bank of Australia has cut savings rates between 15 and 25 basis points in response to the recent reduction in cash rates, the last of the big four banks to move.

Other financial institutions, many of whom have held back waiting for the majors to move, are likely to start trimming fixed and call savings accounts over coming days, despite many rates being zero, or below the headline inflation rate of 1.3 per cent.
