WA to leave greenhouse gas policing to Canberra

Western Australia’s Labor government will hand responsibility for policing greenhouse gas emissions on major projects to the federal government under new constitutional legal advice it sought to justify the move.
Environment Minister Reece Whitby told parliament on Tuesday the advice suggested the state’s power to assess big polluting projects was redundant after the Commonwealth bolstered the safeguard mechanism last year.
