Too late to avert energy crisis in Victoria, CEOs warn

The boss of gas producer Beach Energy says Victoria is unavoidably headed for an energy crisis like New Zealand’s because the Labor state government has realised too late that it needs more gas supply to support the transition to renewables.

Beach Energy chief executive Brett Woods’ sharp criticism of the Victorian government was echoed by CEO Meg O’Neill of Woodside Energy, Australia’s largest natural gas producer, who warned that ideology had killed appetite for new gas investment in the state.
